Making Memorable Vacations

Whether you travel to the beach or mountains, with family or friends, spending time out of town will help you unwind and feel rejuvenated. Plan the best vacation and build lasting memories with the ones you love using these simple tips:

1. Plan: Make your vacation memorable investing the time researching your destination. Learn about the history of the area, the best restaurants and shopping areas to maximize your experience, and then make a plan. Keep all the varied interests of your travel companions in mind, be they friends or grandchildren, to ensure everyone is making special memories.

2. Picture Perfect: Make sure your photos are as memorable as the vacation itself! Cell phone cameras are handy for quick snapshots, but when you’re on a family trip it’s smart to bring along a camera that will allow you to make quality prints to treasure. Be sure to document the entire trip, not just the destination. Snap photos of the little moments: kids snoozing on the plane, footprints in the sand; as well as the big ones: picturesque scenes from your destination, photos with your travel companions in front of landmarks and events.

3. Pick Great Souvenirs: When you’re traveling skip the cheap souvenirs. Head to local stores and find things that you will use in your regular life that will have a story to tell when people ask about it.

4. Write It Down: As much as you believe the contrary, once you get home you will not remember your tour guide’s name, or the artist whose work you loved so much, or even the hotel where you stayed. Jot down your thoughts and ideas as you go—names of places, the great things you saw and how they made you feel; the more details the better! Having a detailed account of your travels allows you to reflect on and appreciate your trip years down the road. Memories made, memories kept.
